I developed a love for baking pretty late in life. At 35, I faced a challenge when I lived with a lady in Sweden who had coeliac disease and avoided sugar and lactose. Determined to make something that my friend could enjoy, I turned to Google and searched for healthy bar recipes.

With a little bit of creativity and some substitutions, I came up with a delicious recipe that was not only healthy but also tasty. And so, began the journey of the Nutty Bars.

Upon returning to South Africa, I decided to turn my passion for baking into a business. Starting in my kitchen in Sedgefield, I worked tirelessly to perfect the recipe. Early mornings and long nights were spent taste-testing and tweaking the recipe until it was just right.

The Nutty Bars quickly became a hit and gained popularity at the Wild Oats market in Sedgefield. Slowly but surely, sales picked up, and the business expanded to Cape Town. However, I realized that I needed to focus on more than just the distribution around the garden route and Cape Town.

When the pandemic hit, I had to pivot my business and focus on healthy, frozen, vegan meals, and muffins. But, the Nutty Bars remained a constant favorite and still to this day, I enjoy them with my morning coffee.

As the journey continues, I’ll know it’s time to close the business when I stop craving my daily Nutty Bar. But until then, I remain dedicated to sharing my love for healthy and delicious treats with the world.
